I recently received my Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Currently, I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Mizzou Advantage Media of the Future Initiative, where I will be teaching courses in Journalism, Peace Studies, and Sociology for the 2012-2013 year. For the fellowship, I will also be researching and developing curricula around the 'Media of the Future' theme.
I am a broadly trained sociologist with emphasis areas of Culture & Identity and Social Control & Deviance. My research and teaching interests are also quite broad, although I have thus far placed a primary research emphasis on media sociology. I have published work in the area of critical pedagogy and I work hard to put these lessons into practice in the classroom. In addition to an interest in all things media, I have specific interest and experience in teaching on theory, culture, identity, symbolic interaction, race and ethnicity, deviance, and qualitative methods.
I recently completed my dissertation about Twitter and the Journalistic Field and I am now working on advancing portions of this research toward publication. I am currently looking for full-time employment for the fall of 2013. (See the "Research & Teaching" page for more about my dissertation work.)
